ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Nick Phillips was born and raised in New Zealand. Captivated by the silhouette of Kapiti Island, he caught the travelling bug at an early age. He worked as a cartographer and road traffic engineer for forty years, in four countries, and now lives in Sydney, Australia.
In 1997, he wrote and published St Helena: a Traveller’s Handbook, about the island of Napoleon’s exile. He later became hopelessly addicted to the study of the Portuguese language, and to the craft of literary translation. He co-translated with Margaret Jull Costa an obscure Portuguese novel by the acclaimed author Eça de Queiroz, The Mystery of the Sintra Road, published by Dedalus in the UK in 2013.
Nick has also written several short stories published in the annual Common Thread Anthology.
